Jacob Batalon Confirms He’s Playing Ned Leeds In ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

Spider-Man: Homecoming doesn’t hit theaters until next July, so details about the movie are scarce at the moment. One of the things that fans have been wondering about the upcoming movie is which classic Spider-Man characters will make an appearance. We already know about some of them, but we can now add another one to the list.

In a recent interview with KHON2 News, Jacob Batalon confirmed that his Spider-Man: Homecoming character is indeed Ned Leeds. We previously knew that Batalon’s character was named Ned, but we never had actual confirmation that this is this Ned.

Well, Ned Leeds; I play Peter Parker’s best friend in the film. We are both in high school; we are about fifteen. And it’s just about Peter dealing with being a superhero and going through puberty. He still has to worry about homework; he still has to worry about his crush liking him, while trying to save someone who’s probably in a burning building. He can’t tell anyone because he’s not the cool kid, so he’s just stuck with this really cool life that he can’t tell anyone about.

You can watch the full interview below.

Ned Leeds has quite the history with Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man. In the comics, Leeds was a rival to Peter and worked at the Daily Bugle. The character was married to Betty Brant and eventually became a version of the Hobgoblin. Another version of the character also appeared in The Spectacular Spider-Man, but had a different name and ethnicity. However, Batalon’s Leeds doesn’t really sound like either of these versions.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming opens in theaters on July 7, 2017.
