Is The ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Sequel Setting Up The Sinister Six?

Spider-Man Tom Holland Sinister Six MarvelToday has brought great news to fans looking forward to the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel. With Michael Keaton returning as The Vulture and Jake Gyllenhall possibly being cast as Mysterio, it seems that the web-slinger’s sequel could be introducing Marvek Cinematic Universe fans to the Sinister Six.

Remember when Sony wanted to make a Sinister Six movie? Remember that post-credits for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 featuring the Sinister Six’s gear lined up in some sort of evil museum? It seems that the MCU may be taking that idea and doing something quite interesting with it. At the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, it seemed that Keaton’s Vulture was on the track to become a better man. It’s not outright said, as his post-credits scene could be interpreted in several different ways, but it seemed like he was ready to do what was right for his family and the law. While many assumed we wouldn’t see Keaton don the Vulture wings again, it seems there is now a large possibility that it could happen.

We have yet to see Mysterio in the MCU but we could see his introduction happen in prison alongside Vulture. It’s possible that either Mysterio or Vulture could call on the other villains of New York to create a team to take down Spider-Man. Even if he was veering on the good side, we don’t know what’ll happen during Vulture’s trial and it could force him back into villainy to escape. In the original formation of the Sinister Six, Doctor Octopus called for all of Spider-Man’s foes to come together to destroy him. The only villains who answered his call were Mysterio, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, and Sandman. Either Vulture or Mysterio taking on the Doc Oc role would make perfect sense, especially given Vulture’s current situation. That being said, there is one other hint from the previous film that could hint at the team’s creation.

At the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, we’re shown the post-credits scene with Vulture that I mentioned above. During the scene, he is approached by a character from earlier in the film by the name of Mac Gargan, played by Michael Mando. If you don’t recognize Gargan’s name, you may recognize his villainous alter-ego from the comics: Scorpion. In the post-credits scene, Gargan asks for Vulture’s aid in finding Spider-Man so some friends of his on the outside could have a shot at him. This could very easily be our introduction to the Sinister Six of the MCU. It’s possible that Vulture, Mysterio and the rest of the Six will be recruited by Scorpion in the next film.

The Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel hits theaters on July 5, 2019. Make sure to keep an eye on Heroic Hollywood as more details on this project come out.
