M. Night Shyamalan’s Split is on track to have a very successful second weekend at the box office. Split earned $8 million during Friday showings and is estimated to bring in around $25 million this weekend. Split has been gaining critical and fan acclaim since it debuted last weekend.
Split, is the 4th best opening for Shyamalan behind Signs and The Village. James McAvoy has been earned praise for his performance in the film, playing a character that has 23 different personalities.
Coming in second place on Friday was the newly released, A Dog’s Purpose. Despite ongoing controversy surrounding this film, it brought it $5.3 million on Friday and is on track to make around $19 million. The last new released of the weekend, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, made $5 million on Friday and is likely to bring in around $12 and $13 million.
Momentum has slowed down on Vin Diesel’s xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, which came in sixth place on Friday and earned $2.1 million.The first film in the xXX franchise debuted in 2002 and opened with $44.5M, the sequel followed up with Ice Cube at the helm.
