‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Casts Michelle Yeoh

UPDATE: Deadline has revealed that Yeoh will be playing a character named Han Bo, who will be a Starfleet Captain. Her ship is the Shenzhou, which will play a significant role in the first season of the series.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Star Trek: Discovery, but the CBS All Access series has made its first addition to its cast. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Michelle Yeoh has landed a role on the series, according to consulting producer Nicholas Meyer (director of Star Trek II and IV), who revealed the news to Coming Soon.

Meyer didn’t reveal any details about Yeoh’s role, but the there’s a decent chance that the actress could be playing the lead character of the series, who serves as a Lieutenant Commander aboard the U.S.S. Discovery.

The series — which is set a decade before the original series — had a major behind-the-scenes shake-up last month when Bryan Fuller stepped down from his role as showrunner, but he’ll remain on board as an executive producer along with Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts, as well as Akiva Goldsman.

Star Trek: Discovery premieres on CBS All Access in May 2017.

So she’s Asian AND the name of her ship is the Shenzou. I guess they still haven’t figured out diversity by that time.

She’s more the age of a captain rather than lt commander.
