Despite early predictions the series would not be well-liked or well-rated, Star Trek: Discovery is proving to be a commercial and critical success so far in its run on CBS All Access. So successful that the producers-that-be have decided to continue the USS Discovery voyages for a second season.
Current showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen J. Berg are also returning to helm the sophomore season, according to EW. The producers are obviously aware of the growing fan base for this show in particular and are willing to bank further on the show’s future. Marc DeBevoise, President of CBS Interactive, declared just as much in an associated statement to the news of renewal:
In just six episodes, Star Trek: Discovery has driven subscriber growth, critical acclaim and huge global fan interest for the first premium version of this great franchise. This series has a remarkable creative team and cast who have demonstrated their ability to carry on the Star Trek legacy.
The official ratings for Star Trek: Discovery have not been made clear by CBS All Access, but earliest reports saw that the new Trek series was a bit hit for literally millions of people. Hopefully, the series can continue its success with fans and critics well into the future.
Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Shazad Latif, Anthony Rapp, Mary Iseman, and Jason Isaacs. The show is currently airing Sundays on exclusive streaming service CBS All Access.
