Daniel Fleetwood, the terminally ill Star Wars fan who started the #ForceForDaniel social media campaign, has passed away at age 32.
Fleetwood, a self-processed Star Wars super fan, campaigned online to catch an early glimpse of Star Wars: The Force Awakens before his passing. In classy fashion, director J.J .Abrams and Lucasfilm granted his wish as he was able to watch an early cut of the film before his death. His wife, Ashley, posted the following moving message to Facebook earlier this morning:
Daniel suffered from a rare connective tissue cancer known as spindle cell sarcoma. In July of this year he was given just two months to live yet fought on for four. Fans and celebrities (including Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Carrie Fisher and Daisy Ridley) took up his cause and secured an early screening of The Force Awakens. It just goes to show you how far the reach of Star Wars can truly extend.
Even the stars themselves honored the late super fan. John Boyega (Finn) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) both paid their respects to Daniel on Twitter today.
#ForceForDaniel glad you got to see the movie more importantly that you slept in peace. God bless you man x x you inspire me xx
