Since the series was first announced at this year’s Star Wars Celebration, Star Wars: Forces of Destiny — the series of animated shorts focusing on the female characters from the Star Wars universe — has proven to be quite popular with fans. With the first season wrapping up last month, we now know how long we will have to wait for the second season… and fortunately, it will not be a very long wait.
While speaking to THR, Star Wars: Forces of Destiny writer Jennifer Muro revealed that the series will be returning for its second season this October. When asked what characters we will be seeing in Season 2, Muro stated:
“I wish I could tell you! You’ll find out in October. It’s been announced that we’ll see Hera [from Star Wars: Rebels], which will be great. I think people will enjoy seeing the characters in the second season.”
The writer also spoke about the fan response to the series:
“It is being really well received! We always wanted to inspire fans of all ages, as long as it was through authentic Star Wars storytelling, I think that was our biggest goal. I think fans can sense that and, even if they’re not thrilled, they understand, “Oh, I know who this is for.” Honestly, the feedback has been mostly super-positive.”
Star Wars Forces of Destiny features the voices of Daisy Ridley as Rey, Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Tiya Sircar as Sabine Wren, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, Vanessa Marshall as Hera Syndulla, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Shelby Young as Princess Leia and Catherine Taber as Padmé Amidala.
All eight Season 1 episodes of Star Wars Forces of Destiny are available to watch now on Disney’s YouTube Channel. All eight episodes of the second season will air as a special on Disney XD in October.
8 ‘Star Wars’ Spin-Off Movies We Really Want To See
May the 4th be with you, everyone! Even on May the 8th! With Star Wars weekend in the rear-view mirror, it’s still a great time to kick back, get out your old glow-in-the-dark lightsaber toys and Darth Vader Halloween masks, and pop in those original trilogy DVDs. Maybe even all 8 currently-released films, if you’re up for the challenge (both mental and otherwise). Speaking of which, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story just came out on Blu-ray, marking the first home release of many Star Wars spin-off movies to come.
Of these, only one future title has been confirmed – Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, to be released in May of 2018. Beyond that, we know Disney had at least two more planned, and probably more down the line. And why not? The Star Wars universe is so ripe for exploration. There are so many characters we were introduced to in the Saga movies that could easily get their own film. And it doesn’t stop there. The legacy of the Jedi and the Sith go back thousands of years, opening up virtually endless possibilities of story material.
Given this abundance of material just waiting to be tapped into, Heroic Hollywood decided to celebrate the Star Wars holiday by compiling a list of the Star Wars stand-alone movies we’d most like to see. While some of the films on this list are more likely to be developed than others, they each share one unifying factor: they’d all be freakin’ awesome!
