Disney Parks chairman Bob Chapek announced the official name of the Star Wars Land park expansions in development during the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts presentation at Disney’s D23 biennial Expo today in Anaheim, CA.
The new Star Wars Land expansion taking place at both Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida, and Disneyland in Anaheim, California, shall henceforth be known as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will transport fans to a never before seen outpost somewhere on the outskirts of wild space, separate from the galactic history we’re familiar with.
Concept art from both of the parks main attractions was released, giving fans their first look at an experience that will immerse guests into the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance, with one attraction putting you inside the hangar bay of a First Order Star Destroyer and the other giving you your chance to fly the fastest ship in the galaxy, the Millenium Falcon. The ride will pit you and your flight crew (friends or family) behind the controls of the iconic ship. Each member of the crew will have a specific role in the adventure but no matter how bad your piloting skills are, you will arrive at your destination. The Falcon might just be more damaged than others and your reputation as a bad pilot reputation will follow you around the rest of the park. You may even be hunted by a Bounty Hunter.
Several characters were also announced to be a part of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge including BB-8, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren and members of the First Order, as well as Hondo (Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars: The Clone Wars), and RX-24 aka Rex, the pilot from Star Tours who takes on a new role in this land as the DJ at the cantina.
In addition, a Star Wars themed resort was also announced offering fans the chance to take a vacation and immerse themselves in a galaxy, far, far away. Chapek explained how the new hotel will immerse guests into a new form of Disney storytelling:
“It’s unlike anything that exists today. From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story! You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open in 2019, first in California at Disneyland and later in the year in Orlando, Florida, at Walt Disney World. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the Star Wars park expansions and the resort as we learn it.
