‘Star Wars’ Creator George Lucas Breaks Ground On Museum For Visual Media

George Lucas LucasfilmAfter years of planning, George Lucas’s passion project to build a museum celebrating visual media — from films and television to video games and comics — finally began construction. The Star Wars creator attended the ceremony commemorating the beginning of construction.

The moment that ground was officially broken on the future site of George Lucas’ Museum of Narrative Art can be seen below:

Variety notes that the future non-profit museum in Los Angeles will have dining rooms, classrooms, and lecture halls, among other things, as the building will be five stories in height. With construction finally beginning, Lucas personally attended the opening to make a statement about why it’s important for every generation to have their own stories, and why it’s important for any given story to have striking visuals:

“In my feeling, popular art is an insight into a society and what they aspire to — what they really are. It’s telling the narrative of their story, their history. We have to share a history — we have to share heroes.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now available on Digital HD.
