Star Wars: The Force Awakens reunited audiences with fan-favorite hero Han Solo with Harrison Ford reprising his role as the beloved smuggler. Unfortunately, the reunion was short lived as Solo met his demise at the hands of Kylo Ren, his son who had become an agent of the sinister First Order. Considering the circumstances of the character’s death and the fact that Ford had previously proposed killing off Han Solo in Return of the Jedi, many fans assumed that Harrison Ford’s time with the franchise was over. Now, Ford has commented on whether or not he would return to the Star Wars franchise during an interview with GQ.
Based on Ford’s comments, it appears he is content to leave the Star Wars franchise behind him, though he would not rule out a potential return. Ford stated:
“I’m finished with Star Wars if Star Wars is finished with me.… But it is science fiction.”
Personally, being mortally wounded and falling into a pit on a planet that is later obliterated seems like a difficult fate to overcome, even by science fiction standards. However, Han Solo could always return through flashbacks, especially considering there are many unanswered questions over what happened between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
Of course, Han Solo will return to cinema screens in the untitled Star Wars spin-off featuring Alden Ehrenreich as a younger version of the roguish smuggler.
Written by Lawrence Kasdan and son Jon Kasdan, The Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, Michael K. Williams and Ian Kenny.
The Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on May 25, 2018.
8 ‘Star Wars’ Spin-Off Movies We Really Want To See
May the 4th be with you, everyone! Even on May the 8th! With Star Wars weekend in the rear-view mirror, it’s still a great time to kick back, get out your old glow-in-the-dark lightsaber toys and Darth Vader Halloween masks, and pop in those original trilogy DVDs. Maybe even all 8 currently-released films, if you’re up for the challenge (both mental and otherwise). Speaking of which, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story just came out on Blu-ray, marking the first home release of many Star Wars spin-off movies to come.
Of these, only one future title has been confirmed – Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, to be released in May of 2018. Beyond that, we know Disney had at least two more planned, and probably more down the line. And why not? The Star Wars universe is so ripe for exploration. There are so many characters we were introduced to in the Saga movies that could easily get their own film. And it doesn’t stop there. The legacy of the Jedi and the Sith go back thousands of years, opening up virtually endless possibilities of story material.
Given this abundance of material just waiting to be tapped into, Heroic Hollywood decided to celebrate the Star Wars holiday by compiling a list of the Star Wars stand-alone movies we’d most like to see. While some of the films on this list are more likely to be developed than others, they each share one unifying factor: they’d all be freakin’ awesome!
