Stormtroopers have been a popular way for featuring big cameos in a galaxy far, far away. For Star Wars: The Last Jedi however, cuts needed to happen and that left two royal cameos on the cutting room floor.
Prince William and Prince Harry did as Daniel Craig did for J.J. Abrams in The Force Awakens and shot scenes as stormtroopers for director Rian Johnson. Unfortunately, being members of Britain’s Royal Family doesn’t allow for much pull when it comes to making the final cut of the film.
This was confirmed by John Boyega, who would know a thing or two about being a stormtrooper. During the ITV talk show This Morning, the Finn actor finally made it official that the brothers shot scenes for the movie — although it wasn’t exactly a huge secret.
“Yeah they were, man. I’m sick of this, I’m sick of it! Yes, they were, OK?” Boyega said. “They cut it out of the film. I did personally apologize to them yesterday and said, ‘Sorry you were cut out of the film.’ Will was like, ‘I guess I just need to work more on the skill.’”
When the two visited the set back in April of 2016, many rumors began to sprout that they would be in the film. As it turns out, they were — just not in the cut made for the masses.
Written and directed by Rian Johnson, the film stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Laura Dern, Kelly Marie Tran and Benicio del Toro. Here’s the official synopsis:
