‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’: Marvel Comic To Focus On Del Toro’s DJ

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

We’re only two months away from the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and we have yet to see Benicio Del Toro’s character from the film, a slicer (hacker) known simply as “DJ,” in either of the trailers released so far. At the moment, little is known about the mysterious character, aside from the fact that Finn (John Boyega) and Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) will cross paths with him while on a mission to the gambling resort Canto Bight. While how much we will learn about DJ in the film is still yet to be seen, we now know that we will at least be able to learn a little more about the character following the film’s release thanks to a new comic from Marvel.

The Marvel Comics one-shot Star Wars: The Last Jedi – DJ #1 will hit store shelves in January. It will be written by Ben Acker and Ben Blacker (Marvel’s Deadpool V Gambit) and drawn by Kev Walker (Star Wars: Doctor Aphra), with a cover by Jeff Dekal (Marvel’s Iron Fist).

You can read the official synopsis below from Marvel:

5 Ways ‘The Last Jedi’ Links To Greater ‘Star Wars’ Canon

Star Wars The Last JediStar Wars: The Last Jedi is right around the corner. The film is the next chapter in the ongoing Skywalker saga. It’s also unique in the Star Wars films as it is the first one to be an immediate sequel to its predecessor. But that does not mean there won’t be plenty of Easter eggs for fans of the greater Star Wars canon to pick up on and enjoy.

One of the biggest criticisms about the previous Star Wars canon, now dubbed Legends, is that ancillary material never connected. Since Disney has taken over and the establishment of the Star Wars Story Group, that has all changed. The modus operandi has been to have everything connect but not in an intrusive way– one that feels more natural to reward the more hardcore fans as well as to intrigue new fans.
