Although fans eagerly anticipating Star Wars: The Last Jedi have their eyes focused on Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) training on Ahch-To, let’s not forget about the chaos between the First Order and the Resistance. One of the characters involved with that conflict is General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson), who will certainly have plenty of anger within him at the beginning of the new film after seeing one of his stormtroopers FN-2187 (John Boyega) betray the First Order. It also doesn’t help that Starkiller Base was destroyed…
So far, fans have only been given one trailer and a few posters for the upcoming film, and so far we have not seen much from Gleeson as Hux – hinting that footage involving him and the First Order are being kept under wraps for the film itself.
According to Gleeson, the script for the film took a different direction than he expected. Recently, Gleeson was interviewed by Collider where he was inevitably asked about working with writer/director Rian Johnson:
“When I read it I needed to talk to him, and I think that’s always a good sign. I was like, ‘Wow there’s some stuff there which is kind of—not scary but different to what I expected,’ and that’s a really, really nice thing. I think that’s a really positive thing, I think that’s important for those films that we don’t repeat ourselves. So I just wanted to talk to him, and when I talked to him he was so clear and so confident, not in a brash way but he knew the film he wanted to make, and it was a really lovely thing. Just [to] sit down with a filmmaker you really enjoy… but to see him, just the confidence of it and his excitement about what it could be and everything, it was really pleasing to see. Very calming. And I got really excited about being in it, and it was a really very, very cool experience working with him. I would love to work with him again, I really enjoyed it.
I’m just really interested to see the film now, as well. You never know what something’s gonna be like. Even when you read the script, you don’t know what the tone of something is gonna be. You can guess at it, but I can’t wait to see it. I just wanna sit in a room full of people and watch that movie and see what it does to us.”
Gleeson is the latest actor in the film’s cast to praise Johnson’s work on the film. Sure, actors and actresses will hype their upcoming projects with nothing but praise from their experience, but given that the word from the cast and crew of the film is pretty positive with minimal conflicts compared to other recent Star Wars productions we may be in for something special.
What do you think of Gleeson’s comments? Do you believe him that the film will be taking unexpected directions? Sound off in the comments below, and be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news regarding the Star Wars universe.
