‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Becomes The Third Highest-Grossing Film Of All Time

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Star Wars: The Force Awakens brought in $41.6 million in North America this weekend for a domestic haul of $812 million. Overseas, the movie finally opened in China on Saturday and managed to gross an impressive $53 million for a worldwide total of 1.73 billion. The Force Awakens is now officially the 3rd highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing Jurassic World‘s $1.669 billion. Earlier this week, the movie took the #1 spot from James Cameron’s Avatar at the North American box office. Will it manage to do the same thing globally? Place your bets in the comment section.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, J.J Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened with an estimated $33 million at the Chinese box office on Saturday. Domestically, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant managed to surpass The Force Awakens with a haul of 14.4 million on Friday, compared to Star Wars‘ $10.76 million. However, The Force Awakens is still expected to take the #1 spot at the North American box office this weekend with an estimated gross of $38 million. So far, it has earned $781.1 million domestically and it should be able to become the 3rd highest-grossing film of all time globally by Monday.
