Starro Appears In New ‘Powerless’ Extended Trailer

A new official extended trailer has been released for NBC’s upcoming comedy series set in the DC Universe, Powerless, and it’s the funniest one yet!

Not only is this trailer full of the yucks, but it is also jam packed with tons of awesome DC Comics Easter eggs. Not only are there numerous references to DC’s holy Trinity of Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman (we’ve already informed you that Alan Tudyk’s character, Van Wayne, is Bruce Wayne’s cousin), but it also appears that we get a brief glimpse of a classic Justice League villain that many fans, myself included, NEVER thought we would see in any form of live-action: Starro the Conqueror!

Check out the trailer below for yourself and see if you can spot the alien starfish creature for yourself.

In case you don’t know, Starro — created by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky — was the very first villain the Justice League of America ever battled, debuting in issue #28 of DC’s superhero team-up series Brave and the Bold in 1960. As we all know, the team was so popular that they soon were given the chance to headline their own title and comic book history was made. It’s nice to see an oddball character like Starro, who essentially made the JLA, get a brief moment to shine here. It’s not like he’s ever gonna appear in the DCEU.

I’ve been curious to see Powerless ever since it was first announced, but I’ve mostly been a bit trepidatious about the whole thing. I started to get a little more excited as the cast was revealed, with three of my current favorite comedic performers signing on in Rogue One‘s Alan Tudyk, Community‘s Danny Pudi and comedian Ron Funches. This trailer has just pushed my excitement to an all-new level. Not only did I laugh several times, but the Easter eggs are on point in this show. The balance of comedy and DC superhero nods makes it feel tailor-made for a geek like me.

Powerless stars Vanessa Hudgens, Danny Pudi, Alan Tudyk, Christina Kirk and Ron Funches, and premieres Thursday, February 2nd on NBC.
