Opening weekend projections for IT keep looking better and better as the Stephen King adaptation is looking to score an opening that could top $60M for its first weekend at the box office.
According to TheWrap, the latest box office tracking for the latest Stephen King movie is up to $60M or more. The latest tracking comes after word that early test screenings have gone over very well with audiences, as well as the increased interest that naturally comes with a last-minute push to boost the marketing campaign as a film nears its release.
Last time tracking for the movie hit, the movie was expected to open above $50M. Before that, it was a $40M-$45M opening, which itself would have been good for this kind of a movie (which is apparently sporting a $35M-$45M production budget). This kind of upward mobility from initial tracking suggests that a studio has a big hit on their hands, which is always good news for a studio. Hopefully, IT will perform well enough to make up for the lackluster returns that the August box office has brought thus far.
IT will bring terror to the big screen on September 8, 2017, featuring a cast that includes Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise the Dancing Clown (IT), Jaeden Lieberher as Bill Denbrough, Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben Hanscom, Sophia Lillis as Beverly Marsh, Finn Wolfhard as Richie Tozier, Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie Kaspbrak, Chosen Jacobs as Mike Hanlon, and Wyatt Oleff as Stanley Uris. A sequel covering the events from the second half of King’s book is planned (as this adaptation only covers the first half), although no release date has been set.
