Sterling K. Brown Wants To Play John Stewart In ‘Green Lantern Corps’

Green Lantern Corps

Even though he was just cast in Black Panther, Sterling K. Brown is looking to further expand his superhero roots. After today’s announcement confirming John Stewart as a main character in Green Lantern Corps, Brown wishes to play the hero.

Brown took his wish to Twitter to announce his name for consideration.

“Dear powers that be, if you are looking for someone to play John Stewart, I humbly submit my name. Namaste.”

It’d be somewhat unlikely, granted nowhere near impossible, to make a Marvel/DC flip in such close proximity though. But if Brown’s character in Black Panther is a smaller role, he’d have a better chance. Several characters with small roles in one universe have made larger appearances in the other, including Killer Croc.

No word on who would play Hal Jordan yet, but I’d almost gaurantee Ryan Reynolds won’t be reprising the role. It looks like Jordan and Stewart will be the only earthbound Green Lanterns in the film however.

It was also announced earlier today that David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes would be penning the Green Lantern Corps script. Goyer will also be producing alongside Geoff Johns.

Green Lantern Corps is projected for release on July 24, 2020.

I’ve been thinking about him as stewart since supernatural, but then people vs, OJ….and wow, I couldn’t think of anyone else. but he’s in black panther now so i’m not sure if he can flip flop as easily.

He shoulda thought of that before he signed on with Marvel. It’ll never happen now.

    • Brownstones19

      i’m guessing he wasn’t aware.

      • SAMURAI36

Now sure how he couldn’t have been. Every Black actor and their mama that looks the part, has been lobbying for this role for the past 5 years.

        • Axxell

No, only the poor ones who can’t get a job anywhere else…

        • Bruce Norris

Not with the “stank” from that Snyder cologne.

It must pay well to say dumb stuff.

That was a very personal response. Yes it does…Yes it does. ; )

And to think, I thought you were smart and we were cool. It’s not like I said anything mean to ya. Hey, some people are used to being attacked.

If the role in BP is a small supporting role, then he can definitely jump to DC.

Every black actor from 25-45 is going to be throwing their name into the hat for John Stewart. I just hope they pick a good straight man to play against the overconfident, cocksure Hal Jordan.

What do you have against good gay men?

File that joke and go sit in a corner, rethinking your approach to humor.

Common would have been my pick. Too bad they wasted him on a nothing part.

  • DoYouFeelInCharge?

James Marsden as Hal, Nate Parker as John. Done and done.

    • Bruce Norris

No spank you. That has as much draw as Reynolds and Bridges in “R.I.P.D”.

  • Darthmanwe

It does say something about the disproportionate reality of euro-caucasian vs. everyone else numbers in the acting business when the main gripe is that “we can’t find someone who have not acted in a marvel movie” black man.
