24 was hailed as revolutionary when it first aired. From its controversial subject matter, to its unique format, the show quickly rose to be one of the greatest action shows on TV. Lasting 9 seasons, its not hard to notice the popularity of this show. After its last season, Live Another Day, many assumed it was over for the world of 24, then Fox announced “24:Legacy,” an upcoming sequel/reboot that would allow a new character to carry on the torch left by Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer.
Deadline is now reporting that Corey Hawkins has nabbed the leading role in the upcoming show, and for those who haven’t noticed, this kid is really blowing up right now. Not only is he a fantastic actor, but his recent filmography includes Iron Man 3, The Walking Dead, Straight Out Of Compton, and the upcoming Kong: Skull Island.
Along with the casting report, Deadline has revealed new details on the show:
24: Legacy, written by 24 veterans Manny Coto and Evan Katz and directed by Stephen Hopkins (who helmed the original 24 pilot), centers on military hero Eric Carter (Hawkins) and chronicles his return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back – compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil. Coming from a very rough background, Carter turned his life around in the Army Rangers but now, back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole, he’s pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him.
As a fan of the original show (and of this actor), I cannot wait to see what they have in store for fans. While the show currently does not have a release date, filming is set to start soon and its expected to debut sometime in 2016.
