Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer, aka The Duffer Brothers, have revealed they are looking to bring the Netflix smash hit series to a close after a total of four seasons.
Back in February, the brotherly duo said they were planning on the series running for about four to five seasons, however, that was subject to change. Now that Stranger Things 2 is in the can and the brothers are looking ahead towards season three (which they have confirmed), it’s seeming more and more likely it will be the former as the brothers recently told Vulture they are currently eyeing a four-season run.
“We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out,” Ross said.
With time working against them and the children entering their early teenage years (except for Caleb Mclaughlin who turns 16 this October), the brothers who pay tribute to the classic films of Steven Spielberg and novels by Stephen King with their sci-fi mystery series have no choice but to skip ahead a year in between seasons. In the past they have said they want to follow the Harry Potter model and chronicle the kids of Hawkins, Indiana as they grow up over the years but it seems the plausibility of having something terrible happen each year is proving too challenging.
“We just have to keep adjusting the story,” Matt said. “Though I don’t know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year.”
Stranger Things 2 stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, and Noah Schnapp. In addition to Astin, the series has also added Paul Reiser (Aliens), Brett Gelman (Jobs), Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers), Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen, and Broadway star Sadie Sink into the mix as well. Here’s the official synopsis:
It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.
Stranger Things 2 hits Netflix October 27, 2017. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the next season of Stranger Things as we learn it.
