‘Stranger Things’ Star David Harbour Teases Season 3

Stranger Things Season 3 David Harbour Chief HopperThe second season of Netflix’s cultural phenomenon Stranger Things earned an impressive 12 nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards. One of the major nominations was given to actor David Harbour in Best Supporting Actor for his role as Chief Hopper.

The highly-anticipated third season is currently in production, but Harbour has some interesting teases as to what fans should expect from Stranger Things:

“If you’re a real fan of Stranger Things and you really want to know. I would go look at the great films that were released in ’85, of which there were many, and just go down that list and think of the possibilities that we could be going with. I think it is a specific season to 1985, and so you’ll see references to that.”

One of, if not the most iconic film of 1985 is Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future. Given how beloved that film is as well as season 2 using Ghostbusters as an inspiration given its release in 1984, it seems possible that the Stranger Things cast will be influenced by the time-traveling classic.

Harbour continued:

“We’re experimenting a lot this season, and we’re taking risks, and I hope that they pay off but they are risks. We’re going into territories we’ve never been to before, and it’s exciting.”

Harbour also described where Hopper’s head will be in season 3:

“We had a little softer season with Jim in Season 2. Where he was really working off these fatherly instincts and understanding a responsibility that was larger than himself, and I think one of the things that we missed from Season 1 was this guy who goes into government facilities and punches people in the face. He’s not a doofus, but he’s a bit of a Columbo character.”

Official plot details are still under wraps, however, the eight-episode third season will feature another time jump when the adventure continues, picking up with its young characters in the summer of 1985. Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Noah Schnapp, Cara Buono, Dacre Montgomery, and Sadie Sink have all been confirmed to return for the next season of Stranger Things.

Season 3 also includes new characters played by Cary Elwes, Jake Busey, Maya Hawke, and Francesca Reale.
