‘Stranger Things’ Producer Shawn Levy Signs Massive New Deal With Netflix

Stranger Things 2 Stranger Things executive producer and director Shawn Levy has signed a four-year deal for as much as seven figures with Netflix.

The new deal will have Levy producing new television series exclusively through his production company 21 Laps Entertainment for the next four years, building upon the streaming giant’s relationship with 21 Laps that Levy established with the smash hit series Stranger Things from creators Matt and Ross Duffer. The series was recently renewed for a third season.

Levy released an official statement, expressing his gratitude towards Netflix for taking a chance on the sci-fi horror series led by children, a risk most other networks were not willing to take:

“I don’t know any other company that would have taken a chance on a show about kids and inter-dimensional monsters, created by young unknown twin brothers and produced by a movie director’s production company. Netflix did, and they bet big, and it’s been truly thrilling to take this wild ride with such exceptional partners.”

Netflix vice president of original content Cindy Holland also released a statement on Levy and 21 Laps’ incredible success:

“Shawn and 21 Laps are courageous and adept storytellers who lean into risk both narratively and by nurturing great young talent. They have an admirable track record for telling ambitious stories that have incredible heart and which resonate with audiences all over the world.”

In addition to the new deal, it was also announced that Josh Barry, former head of drama development and current programming at ABC Studios has been named President of 21 Laps Television. Levy shared his vision and excitement for the company’s future:

“My aspiration for 21 Laps has always been to create content that is eclectic, bold, humanist and surprising. As such, Netflix is the perfect home for us and our collaborators. My partners Dan Levine and Dan Cohen, along with President of Television Josh Barry and the rest of our 21 Laps colleagues and I, can’t wait to craft and usher more singular shows into the world with this empowering platform and partner.”

In addition to the third season of Stranger Things currently in development, Levy is also attached to direct the feature film adaptation of the massively popular Naughtydog video game Uncharted starring Tom Holland.
