‘Suicide Squad’ Opens Overseas With $8.1M; Outpacing ‘Deadpool’ & ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’

Suicide Squad INTL BO

Doesn’t look like bad buzz is hurting Suicide Squad because ahead of it’s domestic debut later tonight, the film is already opening up to strong numbers overseas. The David Ayer directed film scored a very solid $8.1M in seven international markets, which included a large $2.9M from it’s opening day in South Korea and $2.7M in France. These numbers have the film outpacing both this year’s smash hit Deadpool & 2014’s Guardians Of The Galaxy.

At the moment, the film is expected to bring in over $100M overseas this weekend when it hits 57 more markets, which include the UK & Mexico. It’s really feeling like you can throw all box office expectations out the window when it comes to this one and it’s going to be very interesting seeing what the final numbers are come Monday morning. Are you planning on catching Suicide Squad this weekend or has the bad buzz changed your mind? Sound off with your thoughts in the comment section below.

I write stuff. Sometimes.

  • Marquis de Sade

Well for dceu’s sake, hopefully they’ll make most of their initial investment back this weekend, cuz as history has shown time and time again regardin’ everything dceu, expect a precipitous drop of epic proportions.

Except with this movie the audiences are loving it unlike Bvs and Mos where the audiences were mixed at best

      • Marquis de Sade

Most of the audience hasn’t seen it yet…but by this weekend you’ll get an accurate guage on how severe the bloodletting will ensue.

Almost $900M and almost $700M don’t sound all that mixed to me.

You have low standards. Explains a lot of your preferences, really.

Warner Bros. made $870 million on “BvS.” Plus, “BvS” must have motivated a ship load of merchandise sales. Warner must be crying all the way to the bank.

      • SAMURAI36

        OMG, precisely this.

      • Marquis de Sade

On a $410 million budget (production + marketing)??? – I highly doubted. wb/dceu would have to do 3 times that cost to break even. You don’t spend that kinda’ GWAP only to settle cost recovery.

  • Jose Colella

Movie is not getting released in Mexico, LMAO

    • Napi

There are two major cinema companies in Mexico, one of them is NOT getting Suicide Squad but the other one is going to release it tonight

      • SAMURAI36

Good to hear. Now if we could just get China on board….

  • flavortang

YES. I get to see this Wednesday. Super hyped!

    • SAMURAI36

Man, that’s a long time to wait dude.

Despite the bad reviews, the DC cinematic universe appears to have built a brand that the public trusts to be entertaining. The film going public appears to be giving DC films the benefit of the doubt. This kind of benefit of the doubt that accumulates to a brand has helped Marvel’s weaker films, like Thor 2 and Iron Man 2. as well.
