Although Jared Leto’s portrayal of the Joker in Suicide Squad remains one the most divisive performances in superhero film history, the Academy award-winners turn as the clown prince of crime appears to have been good enough to earn Leto offers to play other notorious figures. During an appearance on Conan, Leto explained how his take on the Joker nearly got him typecast as disturbed villains.
Leto revealed that he had been offered several roles as a villain for a week:
“I think it was like Charles Manson and, you know, the guy from Waco–you know, basically the most evil of the evil.”

Of course, Leto may not be finished as Batman’s arch-nemesis as the character may appear in the Suicide Squad sequel and a film centered on the romance between Joker and Harley Quinn.
It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
Directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, Viola Davis, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Adam Beach, Jay Hernandez, and Karen Fukuhara.
Suicide Squad is now available on Digital HD, 3D Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
10 Reasons Jared Leto Is The Worst Joker
The Joker is one of the most iconic characters in fiction. His bombastic schemes, twisted behavior and eerie laugh are the things nightmares are made from. Amazing actors like Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger have brought the Joker to life over the years, and he will continue to grace the big and small screen for years to come.
Jared Leto is another amazing actor who’s been lucky enough to play the Joker. The actor was dealt a poor script in Suicide Squad and wasn’t given a chance to properly shine. Certain aspects of his character were enjoyable, and hopefully he will be better in future renditions, but for now, Leto is considered a disappointment. No matter how far the actor pushed himself to get into character, things just didn’t click for him this time around.
