‘Suicide Squad’ Holds Onto Top Spot This Weekend; Global Total Rises To $465M

Suicide Squad Top Spot Weekend Two

While the film saw a bit steeper of a decline than many were expecting before the weekend, Suicide Squad held on to the top spot at the domestic box office this weekend with an esitmated $43.8M. The film saw a 79% decline on Friday but ticket sales spiked back up on Saturday (-54%) and Sunday (-58%) despite losing a good chunk of business to Sony’s Sausage Party and The Olympics. While the  decline was less than that of Batman v Superman (69%), it did end up with a 67% drop for the total weekend.

Overseas though, the film saw a much smaller drop (56%) and added another $58.7M in 62 total markets. These numbers bring the film’s global cume to a solid $465.4M. Following some solid midweek numbers, the film has exceeded the entire runs of Guardians Of The Galaxy in Mexico & Korea, as well as Batman v Superman in Russia. Stay tuned for further updates as the film will be adding the markets of Germany, Austria, Greece and Japan in the coming weeks ahead.

…or to put it in a more succinct perspective:

“Huge opening weekends often result in superhero films posting among of the highest second-weekend declines of any genres besides horror movies, but Suicide Squad‘s terrible reviews and poor word of mouth resulted in a sharp 67.2 percent second-weekend drop to an estimated $43.77 million. That’s a higher second-weekend drop than for almost any other comparable superhero movie this year — 67.2 percent versus 59.5 percent for Captain America: Civil War, 65.3 percent for X-Men: Apocalypse, and 57.4 percent for Deadpool. It was also higher than the 55.3 percent second-weekend drop for the film with the previous record-best August opening, fellow superhero film Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014.

Deadpool may be the most apt comparison here, as a similarly “darkly funny” superhero film with a relatively little-known protagonist outside the comic fandom, at least compared to such household names as Batman or Superman. Suicide Squad debuted with an almost-identical opening weekend, coming in less than one percent ahead of Deadpool‘s opening back in February. But Deadpool‘s rave reviews pushed it to a second weekend that came in about 22.4 percent above Deadpool‘s second frame.”

Yeah, that’s on par with all dceu theatrical efforts: NO STAYIN’ POWER…They’ve turned the phrase “FLAMIN’ OUT” into an artform. – (TILL DA’ BOTTOM FALLS OUT INDEED!) BWAHAHAHA!

          • Axxell

LOL! At least they didn’t bait people into theaters like Suicide Squad did with all those Joker deleted scenes…talk about ripoff…

          • SAMURAI36

Yeah, Dr. Strange, aka Matrix meets Inception.

          • Axxell

Better than GotG meets Hot Topic, aka Suicide Squad.

  • Marquis de Sade

…and to add insult to injury, FINDING DORY over took bvs two days ago, thus pushin’ it down to the 5th spot in the 2016 global box office cume. By the end of 2016, expect that dreck (bvs) to be expelled from the top 5…Disney now has the 2016 top 4 highest grossing movies so far, and DR. STRANGE and STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE are still to come.

    • Origami Rose

It doesnt natter cause while disney and wb are making money your still angry and broke. Girl bye.

      • Marquis de Sade

Awwww look at you tryin’ to get your SHANEEQUA on.

  • SAMURAI36

Ah, so the film hasn’t even opened in several markets? And it’s already close to $500M right now, after just the 2nd week?

Awww Sammy-rai, you’ll always have last week cute lil’ openin’ b.o. numbers to stave off your daily bouts of cold sweats.

Hahahahaha… I recently unblocked you to verify how hurt you are after the SUCCESS of DC’s Suicide Squad… and all I can say is that it’s simply delightful to read all your nonsense :) LOL! xD xD

        • Marquis de Sade

Get back at me when dceu joins the BILLION DOLLAR CLUB, Junior…until then take comfort residin’ in BIZARRO-VILLE.

OH, I see, you are some 4 year old kid ’cause you don’t remeber TDK and TDKR!!! xD xD LOL!! PWNED

          • Marquis de Sade

Not only was Nolan’ tdk and tdkr not canon, but they were not produced by dceu…try again, Junior.

          • Napi

Nolan´s or not TDK trilogy are DC films! and you may show some respect! ’cause without Batman Begins there would be NO Iron Man, NO Captain America Civil War, NO Guardians of the Galaxy, and next shameful Marvel “””adaptation”””, Doctor Stinks (Strange) xD xD LOL!!

          • Marquis de Sade

LOL! Reachin’ ain’t your strong suit, my honey bunches of oats.

          • Napi

honey bunches of oats? Come on Marquis… are you already owned? I’m DC and you are Marvel and I have beaten you?

            Hulk 200 < Bvs 800
            Iron Man 2 600 < Suicide Squad 500+

Marvel made with it's three first movie less than BILLION "CLUB" xD xD and a half… AND THIS IS HAS TWO BILLION "CLUB" xD XD xd already LOL!!

          • Chris W

You’re both idiots. If you think MoS does that kind of money without being released in the environment that the MCU has created you’ve got a very narrow perspective. Nolan trilogy was more grounded for a reason.

And if you think Disney and WB aren’t cheering each other on you’re both idiots. A thriving CBM genre means $$$ for everyone.

They’re both comic books. I really have a hard time understanding how you guys can draw lines in the sand. Both DC and Marvel(along with many other publishers) have great characters and stories.

We live in a time where we get to see the panels come to life on the silver screen, and the material is being treated with reverence. I only dreamed of this as a child. You all should be relishing it. This Marvel vs. DC stuff is so childish it blows my mind.

          • Marquis de Sade

            …but it entertains ours. BWAHAHAHA.

          • Napi

I’m just showing Marquis of Grey how dumb he looks with all his hate. I love all the superhero films and I don’t care about criticism or the box office, I have my own judgement

          • SAMURAI36

Ah yes, the good ol’ “Marvel created the movie genre” false narrative. Nice.

And if you think Disney and WB aren’t cheering each other on you’re both idiots. A thriving CBM genre means $$$ for everyone.

Another false narrative. DC was making movies, when nobody had a clue about Marvel. And Marvel was enjoying varying degrees of success with their films, while DC was in an admitted slump. So that narrative doesn’t bear out.
Also, I challenge you to find 3 consecutive instances, where either company has “cheered on” the other. Meanwhile, I can point to nearly a dozen examples where both companies (or at least, their representatives) have done precisely the opposite.

They’re both comic books. I really have a hard time understanding how you guys can draw lines in the sand. Both DC and Marvel(along with many other publishers) have great characters and stories.

It’s called “personal preference”. There’s no law anywhere, that says everyone has to like both. No one is telling/stopping you from liking both, nor is our preferences prohibiting you from enjoying what you like, so don’t go around trying to impose your preferences upon the rest of us.

We live in a time where we get to see the panels come to life on the silver screen, and the material is being treated with reverence. I only dreamed of this as a child. You all should be relishing it. This Marvel vs. DC stuff is so childish it blows my mind.

We are relishing precisely the parts that we wanna relish. Isn’t that what “variety” is all about?
And has it ever occurred to you, that while you can’t fathom the rivalry, we can’t fathom the Gestapo-like mentality you & others try to impose on everybody else?
I am unapologetically Pro-DC, & unashamedly anti-Marvel. Does what I eat, make you s#!t? Pretty sure it doesn’t.

          • Chris W

Of course that’s the only thing you took from my statement. Troll elsewhere child.

          • SAMURAI36

Ah yes: you’re the one telling people what they should/not like, but I’m the “child”.

          • SAMURAI36

Wait, you didn’t actually read what I wrote, did you? You made 3 separate points, & I commented on all 3. Yet, you’re talking about “the ONLY thing”, as if I’d focused on just one thing.

          • Marquis de Sade

Marvel capped off their Phase one with $1.5 Billion

Marvel began their Phase two with IM3’s 1.2 Billion, Then capped it off with AOU’s $1.4 Billion w/ANTMAN’s $500 Million+ as desert.

Marvel began their Phase three with CA:CW’s $1.15 Billion.

…and all you have are two hollow under-achievin’ dceu’s feats of non-fancy, Junior.

THIS IS A CLEAR CASE OF IRREFUTABLE “BIG BANK (Marvel) TAKE lil’ bank (dceu).

          • Napi

WOW!!!! You’re incredibly dumb! IT’S EXACTLY WHAT I’M TRYING TO SAY! Nolan’s trilogy made 2.5 BILLION “CLUB” xD XD

DCEU PHASE1 has already surpassed MCU phase 1 with 3 movies!!!

Just imagine the end of phase 1, oh my gosh, JUST IMAGINE PHASE 2… and the BIG MONEY goes to DCEU!!!… and nothing to Marvel and the planet with penis or something LOL! xD xdd

          • SAMURAI36

            Precisely.
Looks like I have to pull this point out, yet AGAIN:
BVS & MOS both individually grossed more than 90% of all Marvel films to date. Looks like SS will be added to that same list shortly.
I can feel the hate flowing thru the Marvel Zombies, after hearing that one point.

          • Axxell

So the highest grossing DC movies make more money than the lowest grossing Marvel movies…LOL

          • Marquis de Sade

Yeah, Sammy-rai has a gift for circular logic. He’s the type of mental genius who would say “I LIKE FOOD THAT TASTES GOOD”.

          • SAMURAI36

            Precisely.

It’s been both frustrating and amusing watching the press and critics trying to manipulate the facts to fit their own personal opinions.
For example, here’s Colliders headline for the same report:

“Suicide Squad Plummets with 67%, Sausage Party Triumps…”

Really? Is that an honest way of saying “Suicide Squad is the number one movie in it’s second weekend”? I think normal people would call that being deceitful and disingenuous. The silver lining though, is that the people have spoken. People like what they like, no matter what the Clicktatorship says:)

      • SAMURAI36

Precisely. I noticed that disingenuous article title as well. These writers are bandwagon jumpers. They know that dog piling on DC is popular right now, so they pour it on in spades.
It’s a shame, that the only place that we can get a good representation of DC, is in the comments sections of any one of these increasingly sh!tty sites.
There are times when being a DC fan is both a blessing & a curse.

        • Marquis de Sade

Oh cry me a river with your insufferable martyr complex…They’re comicbook movies, not the cure for cancer! – At the end of the day, the difference between Marvel and dceu is Marvel’s producing flicks “MOST” folks like and want to see, while dceu produces flicks “MOST” folks are lukewarm after viewing.

          SO STOP YOUR WHINING!

    • Kelly

Word has it China’s not completely off the table.

      • SAMURAI36

Wow, really? If that’s the case, then we’re $800+M bound!!

  • astronauta69
