When Supergirl first introduced viewers to Lena Luthor, played by Katie McGrath, the CEO of the newly named L-Corp tried to assure both Kara and fans that she was nothing like her incarcerated adoptive brother Lex. However, the end of last weeks episode revealed that the nefarious leader of Project Cadmus was in fact Lena’s adoptive mother, causing fans to question just how involved Lena Luthor is with her mother’s sinister experiments. Now, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg spoke to EW about the reveal and what to expect from the mother and daughter duo.
Kreisberg commented on why the identity of Lillian Luthor had been kept a secret and teased the nature of Lena’s relationship with her mother.
“That’s part of why we did it this way. You’re supposed to be left wondering how involved Lena is. We’ve seen that Lillian Luthor is somebody not to be messed with. She clearly wields a great deal of power and scientific know how. What exactly is her relationship with her daughter, and exactly how much Lena is involved with Cadmus, makes up part of the excitement factor for these next few episodes.
It sounds as though fans will have to wait a while before learning whether or not our heroes can trust Lena Luthor or if her efforts to reform her family’s image are simply a facade. What do you think? Can Lena Luthor be trusted or is she plotting something ominous with her mother? Share your thoughts below!
Now, in Season Two, Kara has left the safety of being Cat Grant’s assistant in order to figure out what she really wants to do, while as Supergirl she continues to work at the DEO., protecting the citizens of National City and searching for Jeremiah and Cadmus. Along the way, she will team up with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) to battle new villains, as she strives to balance her personal life with her life as a superhero.
Supergirl airs on Monday at 8:00 pm ET on The CW.
