The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly will hit stands on Friday and will spotlight the upcoming crossover event between all four CW superhero shows. Now, EW has revealed the cover for their upcoming issue that features Melissa Benoist, Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell, the respective leads of Supergirl, The Flash and Arrow, in a super friendly embrace.
The issue will also feature interviews with cast members of all three shows, including Benoist, who commented on a surprise superhero group singing of “Happy Birthday” that greeted her during the photo shoot for the magazine.
“That was overwhelming. I think that will be the first and only time I will be sung to by a group of superheroes.”
Greg Berlanti, the producer who oversees all four CW superhero shows, also commented on the term ‘Berlantiverse’, the alternate name for the ‘Arrowverse’ in which the four shows take place.
“I object to it, to be honest. There are just so many people that are also part of this. Plus, you never want anything named after you that people could be upset or angry about.”
Berlanti also addressed the claim that the CW superhero shows offer an alternative viewing experience to the darker and more serious cinematic DC Comics adaptations.
“These shows have to work on multiple levels. You want them to be fun and enjoyable. But if they’re not about something, why are you showing up to work every day and asking everybody to pour their heart and soul into a story if it’s only about the Flash fighting a villain of the week?”
