‘Supergirl’: Harley Quinn Smith On Working With Her Dad, Kevin Smith

Harley Quinn Smith On Working With Father Kevin SmithTonight, Supergirl returns to TV with its mid-season premiere episode, ‘Supergirl Lives,’ directed by none other than Kevin Smith. His first directing gig for the show, Kevin wasn’t the only Smith who worked on the episode however. His daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, has a guest starring role in tonight’s episode.

Speaking with Comicbook.com, Smith opened up about working with her father, something she’s done for years.

“It’s really a unique thing to be able to work alongside someone that you love so much, doing something that you love so much as well.”

Having grown up in a household dedicated to film and television, Smith has had the chance to work alongside her father in films like Yoga Hosers, and although she wants her own career, she says she still loves getting to work with her father.

“It’s such a special part of our lives, and it’s not something that many fathers and daughters are able to do together. Being able to collaborate together, and sharing what we love so much with each other is really an amazing part of our lives.”

In addition to enjoying the opportunity to work together, Smith also appreciates that her father treats her like any other actor, offering an example from their time together working on Supergirl.

“He treats me the same as every single other person on set, which I wouldn’t want any differently. Well, actually, just to use this as an example, when we went to go do Supergirl, a lot of people didn’t know that we were father and daughter, so I would say dad sometimes and one guy came up to me and was like, ‘why did you just call that man dad?’ I was like, ‘oh well you see, this is the case.'”

We’ll have to wait only a little bit longer to see how Kevin Smith’s first Supergirl episode turns out and how Harley Quinn Smith’s character factors into the events that lead Kara and Mon-El to Slaver’s Moon. Beyond that, we may see the father-daughter duo again as Kevin has already confirmed he’s returning to direct a second Supergirl episode this season.

Prepare for the tonight’s new episode by checking out the synopsis and the trailer below.

“Supergirl Lives” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, V) (HDTV)
KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS; ROULETTE RETURNS — Kara (Melissa Benoist) is moved by the story of a missing woman named Izzy (guest star Harley Quinn Smith) and decides to investigate despite Snapper Carr’s (guest star Ian Gomez) order to leave it alone. Kara takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) with her to the last place Izzy was seen and the duo find themselves thrust through a portal to another planet, Slaver’s Moon, where the downtrodden are sold as slaves. The leader of the trafficking ring is none other than Roulette (guest star Dichen Lachman). To make matters worse, Slaver’s Moon has a red sun, which means Kara and Mon-El are stripped of their powers and stuck on the planet with no way home. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Alex (Chyler Leigh) blames herself for Kara’s disappearance, fearing she’s become too focused on her new relationship with Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) and too complacent in watching out for her sister. Kevin Smith directed the episode with story by Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Eric Carrasco & Jess Kardos (#209). Original airdate 1/23/2017.”

Supergirl airs Mondays 8/7c on The CW.

It makes me smile when parents get to work with their kids on something they both enjoy. DC has given Kevin some great material to work with so far. I’m really looking forward to what they gave him with regards to the Girl of Steel.
