Fans of Gotham and Arrow have already seen two variations of the Dollmaker, a cruel villain who treats human beings as his own personal toys. In the comics, the first incarnation of this villain (which was used for neither series) was Anton Schott, son of the sadistic Toyman. Television viewers haven’t seen a live-action version of Toyman since the days of Smallville, but that’s set to change in the very near future.
“Childish Things” will be the next episode of Supergirl, and has been given the following synopsis:
Kara does her best to support Winn when his father, the supervillain Toyman (Henry Czerny guest stars as Winslow Schott, Sr.), breaks out of prison and seeks out his son for unknown reasons. Also, Cat offers Lucy a job at CatCo and Alex asks Hank to use his powers to help uncover Maxwell Lord’s plans.
According to Warner Bros., this incarnation of Toyman is to be a potentially dark one, and there appear to be subtle hints that he may have plans to set Winn on the path to becoming a villain himself.
“Winslow Schott, Sr. is a classic D.C. supervillain, a mad criminal genius known as Toyman – and Winn’s estranged father. Toyman weaponizes toys to wreak destruction and revenge but is ultimately driven by one thing – the obsessive desire to reunite with his beloved son.”
The preview images in the following gallery provide a brief glimpse of Henry Czerny as Toyman interacting with his son, along with some shots of other main characters. Note the doll in one particular shot of Winn in an arcade, hinting that we just might get to see at least one or two of Toyman’s playthings in action.
CBS will air “Childish Things” on Monday, January 18 from 8-9PM ET/PT.
