‘Supergirl’ Season 4 To Follow ‘Superman: Red Son’ Storyline

Supergirl Superman Melissa Benoist CWSupergirl season 4 looks to follow a certain Superman storyline!

The season three finale of Supergirl was chock full of status quo changes, but one of the biggest ones was the season ending cliffhanger, where it was revealed that not long after Supergirl defeated Regin, the scene shifted to Russia, where someone resembling the Last Daughter Of Krypton was seen walking through the snow, clad only in some kind of cloak, and being discovered by Russian soldiers.

Whether or not she’ll be the big bad of season four is not yet known, but current showrunners Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller have confirmed in an interview with TVLine that season four will be taking cues from the Elseworlds story, Superman: Red Son. As Rovner stated,

“For fans of the comics, I think they might recognize that the story we want to tell is inspired by the iconic DC Comics’ Red Son, which told an alternate origin story for Superman.”

Taking place in an alternate reality, Red Son shows what would happen if, instead of landing in Kansas, the ship containing baby Kal-El landed in Soviet Russia. Given that, it should be interesting to see how the story will influence season four’s story arc, and if Supergirl and her double will come to blows over whatever differing ideologies they may have.

Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, David Harewood as J’onn J’onzz / Martian Manhunter, Chris Wood as Mon-El, Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor, and Odette Annable as Samantha Arias/Reign.

The fourth season of Supergirl will air on Sunday nights on the CW, starting this fall.
