With Baby Driver set to hit American theaters soon, Edgar Wright is trending more now than he has in years. His name will forever be associated with Ant-Man despite the fact he ultimately walked away from the project over creative differences with Marvel Studios, but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t get a second chance with the superhero genre. Just look at directors like Zack Snyder or actors like Chris Evans who’ve handled multiple comic book properties without audiences batting even an eye. Honestly, I’d watch any movie directed by Edgar Wright — yes, even Squirrel Girl – so I’m just hopeful he jumps back into the comic world somehow. Hell, I’d even spend top dollar to read a comic book by him if he decided to do something smaller with one of these characters.
Unfortunately, I don’t foresee any of these projects ever happening with Wright at the helm. He’s carved out quite a niche for himself developing his own stories — with the exception of the wonderful Scott Pilgrim vs. the World — and I don’t imagine him comfortably giving up creative freedom to a committee any time soon. But a man can dream, right?
So hit Next and find out more about seven superheroes who are a great fit for Edgar Wright’s unique directorial style.
