Taika Waititi Teases The Evolution Of Hulk In The MCU

Ever since Mark Ruffalo revealed that Bruce Banner’s and the Hulk’s personalities could be starting to merge, fans have been wondering whether or not we’re going to see a more talkative Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, the character can communicate quite easily, but that’s something that we’ve yet to see so far in the movies, even though he has actually mumbled a few words in the past. However, judging from everything we’ve heard so far about Thor: Ragnarok, it seems that the plan is to make the Green Goliath a lot more smarter than the mindless beast that we’re used to seeing.

Director Taika Waititi has been talking quite a lot about Thor: Ragnarok recently, since he has been promoting his latest movie, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, at the Sundance Film Festival. In an interview with Hitflix, Waititi revealed that the studio has been discussing how they’re going to move forward with the character and if he’s going to become more verbal in the future. Here’s what he had to say:

It’s interesting, because at the moment, there’s a big conversation that’s happening about how far to push that. Whether or not The Hulk should be [verbal/conscious]. I think a lot of those conversations have more to do with what’s going to come up in future movies. So I think a lot of those decisions are larger group decisions, rather than anything to do with just me or the writer. They have a lot of stuff that they have to consider. But I do think that’s the best way to track it. I think we all want that. I think we all want to see that development and the evolution of that character. I also think you can do it in a fun way.

Another fan-favorite character who will likely appear in the movie is Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. He’s one of the best villains that the universe has to offer, so it isn’t surprising that everyone wants to see more of him, even though he often steals the spotlight from even the God of Thunder himself. Here’s what the director had to say about that:

He’s such a big part of it, and he’s such a great part of it. My focus really is making sure that Thor is the best character, though. Because he’s got to be. And it should be that way.

Since Waititi is mostly known for his unique style of humor and his brilliant comedies, many assume that he’s going to overdo it with the jokes, because Ragnarok is expected to be much more darker than some of Marvel’s previous movies. You may remember a recent rumor that the director was hired in order to brighten things up a little, and judging from his comments below, it appears that’s indeed the case:

It’s not going to be a crazy comedy, like over the top, but that’s definitely my strength and that’s what they were looking for when they approached me. So, I think that is the thing I can bring to it to give it a different spin and freshen it up a bit.

What do you guys think? Are you looking forward to seeing the evolution of the Green Goliath in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Sound-off your thoughts in the comment section below.
