For many, Gotham Season 1 was a colossal let down. The show suffered from silly plot holes to and overzealous case of prequelitis. But Season 2 came out the gate swinging. It quickly showed its fans that it was worth watching, and has become one of DC’s better TV shows on air.
Earlier this season, Theo Galavan was revealed to be a member of the “Order of St. Dumas” which quickly made fans realize that Azrael’s appearance was only a matter of time. And now, that time has come.
“In many respects, Azrael will have many of the hallmarks and traits that we know from the comics,” he said. “But it will have a brand-new twist upon that character; the way we’re going to bring that character into being on our show will be different than anything we’ve seen in the comics.”
And now thanks to some new set photos, we not only have our first look at Azrael, but we also know who is under the mask.
For those who don’t recall, Theo Galavan was killed by both Jim Gordon and The Penguin, and moments after his death by gunshot, Oswald pushed an umbrella down Theo’s throat. However, after his apparent death, Theo’s body was taken from the morgue to Indian Hill to be experimented on by Professor Hugo Strange. Clearly Theo Galavan has returned from his apparent demise, and has returned in full force as the first incarnation of the infamous Batman character.
Hopefully this characters return will prove to be another interesting storyline that further explores the Batman mythos.
Gotham returns to Fox on February 29th.
