Theo Rossi & Rosario Dawson Join Marvel & Netflix’s ‘Luke Cage’

With production officially underway on Luke Cage, it seems that Marvel and Netflix are looking to round up the cast of their highly anticipated series.

Sons of Anarchy star Theo Rossi has joined the regular cast of the 13-part series. Rossi will play Herman “Shades” Alvarez, a villain who in the comics, happens to be the father of Victor Alvarez, the second Power Man. Shades is yet another character from the early Hero for Hire comics who is set to appear on the show. He was someone who Cage fought and eventually befriended, before he was killed by Bullseye.

It also looks like we’re going to see a very familiar face in the series, as Rosario Dawson who we first met on Daredevil as Claire Temple, will reprise her role as the character on Luke Cage, following her appearance in this year’s Jessica Jones.

Luke Cage is a former gang member who is framed for a crime. In prison, he volunteers for a medical experiment that goes awry, giving him super strength and bulletproof skin. Using his newfound powers, Cage escapes and becomes a hero for hire. His archenemy is Willy Stryker, a former childhood friend from Harlem. The two committed petty crimes together, and both fell for the same woman, Reva Connors, which led to their eventual falling out. It was Stryker who framed Cage for a drug deal that sent him to prison.

Luke Cage also stars Mike Colter and Alfre Woodard. Cheo Hodari Coker will serve as the executive producer and showrunner of the series, which is expected to hit Netflix in 2016.
