Thor: Ragnarok will introduce the Grandmaster to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with acclaimed actor Jeff Goldblum in the role. While fans are excited to see Goldblum portray the colorful character, there was a time when we might have seen the fan-favorite actor in a different MCU role. In an interview with Uproxx, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that Goldblum had originally been offered a part in Captain America: The First Avenger.
When asked which actor he would like to see join a Marvel Studios film, Feige stated that Goldblum had always been someone he wanted to cast and explained that the actor had been offered the part of a Senator in the first Captain America film:
“And we had come close. I mean, I’ll tell you, I think we spoke to him or offered him a role in Captain America: The First Avenger. I think the role of the senator that was part of that USO tour in the first Captain America film. And he either wasn’t available or wasn’t interested or whatever. And thank goodness, because that would have just been a small thing and instead we got to wait for the Grandmaster, which is about as amazing as a Jeff Goldblum ‘Goldblum-iness’ could be.”
Captain America: The First Avenger included a character named Senator Brandt who was present when Steven Rogers was injected by the Super Soldier Serum that granted him his power. A considerably minor character, most fans are probably happy that Jeff Goldblum will be making his MCU debut in a more prominent role.
In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok“, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladictorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!
Directed by Taika Waititi, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.
Thor: Ragnarok will be released in theaters on November 3, 2017.
