Taika Waititi is the brilliant director of movies such as What We Do In The Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, and he’s currently in the process of making Thor: Ragnarok for Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. One of the big benefits of such universe is the possibilities for sharing characters.
The third Thor movie is set to spend a lot of time in the galaxy, flitting between different planets (and possibly realms, too). What other movie in the MCU spends a lot of time around the galaxy? Guardians of the Galaxy, of course.
During an “Ask Me Anything” appearance on Reddit, Waititi was expectedly asked a bunch of questions regarding the upcoming movie. One of the more interesting questions was about characters the director would have liked to got into the movie, to which he replied:
“I would have liked to get John C Reilly’s character in the film but there was no real way to pull it off.”
John C. Reilly doesn’t play one of the Guardians, but rather Rhomann Dey – a member of the Nova Corps on the planet Xandar. Another user on the website then proceeding to ask whether the Corps or the planet will have a presence in the movie, but that was quickly shot down too:
“No, that would make it easy to pull off.”
So unfortunately folks, you shouldn’t expect any crossover from Thor with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Well, not until Avengers: Infinity War anyway.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theatres on November 3, 2017.
