When audiences last saw Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, the conniving brother of Thor had fulfilled his dream of becoming ruler of Asgard by assuming the identity of Odin. Although the God of Mischief may have enjoyed being King, it appears his time on the throne will open the door for the arrival of Cate Blancett’s Hela. In an interview with Screen Rant, producer Brad Winderbaum explained how Loki’s inefficient leadership will grant Hela the ability to take over Asgard.
Winderbaum revealed that with Odin no longer present to protect the universe from cosmic threats, The Goddess of Death will make her move against Asgard:
“[When] we left Loki, he kind of achieved his goals, he became the king of Asgard, and he is ruling that place. And what we come to learn, what Thor comes to learn early on, is that there’s a lot of terrible things in the cosmos that just shouldn’t be that way. And we learn that Odin was doing far more than it seemed on the surface to keep the universe safe. There were all these threats that he had quelled or was keeping at bay, using his strength and power to do so, that Loki was completely unprepared for. So he becomes the King of Asgard, everything is great, it’s a good party. But he failed to realize the threats that were just over the horizon, Hela being the biggest and most terrible one of all.”
The consequences of Loki’s duplicity will unfold when the film arrives in theaters this fall.
In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok“, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladictorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!
Directed by Taika Waititi, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.
Thor: Ragnarok will be released in theaters on November 3, 2017.
