Chris Hemsworth explains that Thor: Ragnarok will directly address where Doctor Jane Foster is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and why Thor Odinson isn’t a part of her life anymore.
Screen Rant got to speak with Hemsworth during their set visit to the movie, and during that time, Hemsworth was asked about if Thor was simply over Jane. He replied with a laugh, saying that that’s something they address:
“We have some… Very respectable fun with how that relationship may have come to an end.”
As it stands, Natalie Portman has stated that she doesn’t have an immediate future to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (although she’s now open to returning). In the meantime, Hemsworth explains that Ragnarok will explore a new romantic dynamic between Thor and Valkyrie:
“It’s like Thor’s meeting his hero! And he’s absolutely smitten by her and because of her history, and being a Valkyrie and all of that. But she’s also this beautiful woman so he’s kind of caught off guard. And she can, you know, she could beat the s*** out of him if she wanted. So I think he hasn’t come up against that very often. It certainly wasn’t the case with Jane. There was a whole different affection and love there. So that was another, you know, ‘How can we make that different from the previous [relationship]?’”
Since Valkyrie can hold her own against the Son of Odin, that distinctly puts her in a different position than his former earthbound flame – and it ought to be interesting to see how sparks fly between the two of them as the story progresses.
Thor: Ragnarok collides on November 3, 2017 with a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor Odinson, Mark Ruffalo as Doctor Bruce Banner (The Hulk), Tesssa Thompson as Valkyrie, Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin Borson, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange, Karl Urban as Skurge, Jeff Goldblum as En Dwi Gast (The Grandmaster), Tom Hiddleston as Loki Laufeyson, Cate Blanchett as Hela, and Clancy Brown as Sutur.

5 Reasons We’re Excited For ‘Thor: Ragnarok’
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is out on home media and Spider-Man: Homecoming has been playing in theaters for a while now, so it’s time to look forward to the next Marvel movies, the first being Thor: Ragnarok.
The trailer for the film is incredible. The vibe, the action, the set-design, the soundtrack, every element of the trailer screams, “This is a different kind of Thor movie.”
And that’s exactly what we need. Thor: The Dark World was the most easily forgettable Marvel sequel, only distinguishable from the original for its use of fan-favorite villain Loki. Thor: Ragnarok looks poised to switch up the formula, seeming more like a fun intergalactic romp than a brooding space epic.
Judging from the trailer and other positive buzz, there’s plenty of cause to be excited for Thor: Ragnarok. Here are the 5 reasons why. Click next to get started!
