One of the fan-favorites in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Jaimie Alexander who plays the character Lady Sif in the Thor franchise and has also made her way onto a few episodes of ABC’s hit Marvel drama, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. While she is kicking butt on the big screen in the MCU, she is also starring in her own series Blindspot (from DC TV producer Greg Berlanti) on NBC that is about to come back from hits hiatus very soon.
When Warner Bros. Pictures was casting Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman for the DC Extended Universe, Alexander was one of the actresses who were up for the role. But as you know by now, the role went to Gal Gadot who will make her debut in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice as well as star in her own Wonder Woman film in 2017.
In a recent interview with Variety, Alexander was asked about whether or not she was disappointed to have lost the role of the Amazon Princess, and she gave the following response.
“Not at all [am I disappointed]. I’m excited to see what Gal Gadot’s going to do with the role. I was one of a few people that were an obvious choice for Wonder Woman, but it was never going to happen. I’m contracted with Marvel and it would (be) strange.”
She also continued to explain how, in many ways, Sif acts as the Wonder Woman for the Marvel Universe.
“Sif, in her way, is Marvel’s Wonder Woman. They’re both ethereal and have armor and a sword, and have special abilities; the physicality of the role is very similar. The thing I really enjoy about Marvel is that they start with a character first and all the explosions and costumes, the glitz and glam, are secondary to who the actual character is deep down. That’s something I haven’t really been able to find with DC Comics. I know that’s a bold statement, but it’s been my experience.”
Alexander is supposedly returning as Lady Sif in the third Thor installment, Thor: Ragnarok and you can catch her on Blindspot, returning Monday, February 29, 10/9c on NBC.
