Alicia Vikander’s ‘Tomb Raider’ Gets Release Date

Alicia Vikander’s Tomb Raider officially has a release date, March 16, 2018. Tomb Raider reboot will be directed by Roar Uthaug.

Vikander joined the project back in April as the film’s lead. This is the first film to be on the date of March 16, 2018.

Viaknder is known for her Oscar winning performance in The Danish Girl, a breakout role in Ex Machina and can be seen coming up in Jason Bourne and opposite Michael Fassbender in The Oceans Between Us.

Many actresses have been rumored to be going out for this role including Star Wars: The Force Awakens lead Daisy Ridley. Sources close to the project have indicated that Viaknder was always the first choice for Croft. The reason this wasn’t announced earlier was that the studio wanted to see a new draft of the script.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider originally featured Angelina Jolie in the iconic role as a British archaeologist. It was released in 2001 and a sequel in 2003, grossing over $432 million worldwide.

Absolutely. Extremely excited. The rebooted (2013) game was FANTASTIC in every way and can very easily be adapted into a movie (which I believe is what they are doing). I hope to hear that they are shooting on location on some island (the setting of the first game) and that they have a high quality cinematographer and director of photography. This movie can be shot to look so gorgeous (think The Relevant or GoT) and real.
