It’s here. The latest X-Men: Apocalypse trailer has arrived and it looks better than ever. The previous trailers have given us a glimpse into the X-Men world post the events of Days of Future Past. Now we get an even deeper look into Apocalypse and at how Bryan Singer has increased the stakes for this new film in the X-Men franchise.
For those who aren’t as familiar with the X-Men comic series, Apocalypse, Oscar Isaac, is the world’s first and most powerful mutant. After thousands of years, Apocalypse is awakened and intends to create a different world from the ashes of this one. He recruits a team of powerful mutants to assist him with his evil world domination, this team is referred to as the Four Horsemen, Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Angel (Ben Hardy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender).
The following are our top ten best moments from X-Men: Apocalypse trailer!
10. Magneto/Professor X
This trailer opens with a conversation taking place between Magneto/Erik Lehnsherr and Charles Xavier. It might seem like a simple moment in a trailer packed with action sequences and new characters but these moments between Magneto and Charles have become some of the greatest moments in X-Men cinematic history, i.e., the plane scene in Days of Future Past. The two have such chemistry and layers to their performances as best friends yet at times enemies.
This opening is also a nod to a conversation that took place between Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen in the original X-Men.
9. Action Sequences
Bryan Singer has stepped up the action within this film on a massive scale. From incrediable destruction sequences to intense fight choreography, Apocalypse is setting up its game in every way. The X-Men aren’t just fighting for their school or a city, instead they are defending the world from an evil unlike anything they have ever encountered before. This movie feels larger both in scale, stakes and authenticity.
X-Men: Apocalypse will be the last movie that Jennifer Lawrence will be appearing in as Mystique, or so she claims. It’s clear that Lawrence is bringing her all to this performance and is emerging as the new leader of this new generation of X-Men, fighting back against Apocalypse. Seeing Mystique go up against Apocalypse is breathtaking yet terrifying. This scene picture below, is likely to set off fan speculation about if Mystique will be making it out of this film alive.
7. Ororo Munroe/Storm
In previous trailers we got a quick look at Ororo Munroe/Storm but this trailer gives us a full look at the character and just how powerful she is. Alexandra Shipp looks incrediable as Storm and extremely powerful. Her performance already stands out in just these few scenes.
6. Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler
Nightcrawler became an instant fan favorite character during X2 but wasn’t utilized after that. Now, Nightcrawler is back and looks amazing. Without a doubt, this is a character that needs to return to the X-Men and the big screen.
5. Scott Summers/Cyclops
Tye Sheridan will be taking on the role of Scott Summers/Cyclops and it looks like this isn’t going to be another “love sick” Summers. Instead, Cyclops is at the center of the action and letting his powers lose and fully fighting back.
4. Professor X/Apocalypse
This moment is complete with action, intensity and emotion. We have seen in previous trailers Professor X going up against Apocalypse (in his true larger than life form) but this clip shows the physical damage that Charles will suffer by the hands of this villain.
3. New Generation
This trailer shows the formation of a new generation of X-Men that will be taking over for the original X-Men cast. Complete with Jean Grey, Scott Summers, Quicksilver and Mystique. We are able to see them come together as a team and embrace what it means to be a part of this legendary team.
2. Quicksilver/Evan Peters
This trailer shows that Quicksilver will be getting a lot more screen time in Apocalypse compared to Days of Future Past. We see Quicksilver decide that he does want to become a part of the X-Men and embrace more of his abilities, saying, “Well you did want me to get out of the house more,” when asked about his decision to join by his mother. Quicksilver (Evan Peters) was a standout in Days of Future Past and is likely to hit a home run once again in Apocalypse.
- Everything Apocalypse
The best moment of this trailer comes by way of one specific character…Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac). Early on in the trailer we see what appears to be a transformation of Apocalypse into a God. Anytime Apocalypse is shown on screen, it increase the stakes for these characters. This is a villain unlike anything the X-Men have ever faced before and seeing more of Apocalypse only increases anticipation for X-Men: Apocalypse.
X-Men: Apocalypse will be released on May 26, 2016.
