Top 5 Directors Who Could Direct ‘The Flash’

Seth Grahame Smith departed the directors chair of The Flash  last week and that got me thinking: Who could be a good replacement?

I was really apprehensive about the Seth Grahame Smith signing since day one. I remember it like it was yesterday, when I was informed. He was never a good choice. I thought it was weird that WB would put a rookie director on a film that has a lot of pressure surrounding it. The Flash Television Series is killing it and they need someone who can take the character to the next level.

Grahame, in my own opinion, just wasn’t the guy. I think he’s an excellent writer and I enjoyed Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter(The book), but he just wasn’t the right man for The Flash. His script may be really good, but his directorial skills are unknown and I know a lot of folks agree. This wasn’t a lost at all. This was Warner Bros. waking up and deciding that they can’t take any more risks.

Batman v Superman was a financial and critical disappointment, whether you like it or not. So, WB has to think smarter about their up coming films. For The Flash, you need someone who’s good with visuals and effects, who can tell a story and make the movie fun. So, I decided to make a top 5 list of directors I think Warner Bros. should take a look at. You can check them out by clicking next.

5. Scott Waugh

This director has a need for speed, but he also knows his action. Although he hasn’t had a critically successful film, he could give us a fun action film. He directed Act of Valor and Need For Speed. Those didn’t do so hot with the critics, but I enjoyed them for what they were. While he’s a risky pick, I think he could surprise us.

4. Justin Lin

Justin Lin directed a few of the good Fast and The Furious movies. The man knows speed, action and comedy. He’s currently getting ready to promote Star Trek Beyond and We’ll be able to see how he deals worth the extra-ordinary when it hits theaters. Lin may be unavailable, though. Warners is currently in talks with him to Direct Space Jam 2 with Lebron James starring. He’s currently in Warners sight and if he doesn’t sign on for Space Jam 2, my hopes is that he could tackle The Flash solo film.

3. Doug Liman

Liman is currently attached to direct Gambit. Gambit is a bit of a gamble and I doubt it will ever be made. If it goes into development hell, Warner Bros better scoop Liman up fast. Liman directed Jumper, The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow. Jumper and Edge of Tomorrow are the prime reasons I think he should get on board. Jumper follows Hayden Christensen’s character, who has the power to “jump” to any part of the world he wishes. Edge of Tomorrow is a good time travel Sci-Fi story. These two movies show that he can do The Flash perfectly.

2. Guy Ritchie

Guy Ritchie is a Company Man. His last 3 films were from Warner Bros Pictures and his upcoming film is from WB as well. Ritchie has ok track record with critics and WB trusts him. He could very well do The Flash. I’ve wanted Ritchie to direct a superhero film ever since I saw Sherlock Holmes. Last year when I saw The Man From U.N.C.L.E, it solidified that thought.

1. Edgar Wright

Edgar Wright is my number one pick to Direct the solo The Flash film. Ever since I saw Wright’s test footage for Ant Man, I was sold that he could do a Flash Film. The way it was shot was beautiful and I think he’d be perfect for slow motion/super speed. Edgar is past due a super hero film and since he’s no longer attached to the MCU, I figured he could take shot at The Flash. So Warner Bros, if you want to do The Flash right, this is your guy. You can check out the hot Ant Man test footage below.

While Edgar Wright and Doug Liman are long shots, I do believe one of the members of this list could do justice to Barry Allen and The Flash. The Flash needs a  Sci-Fi, fantastical, visualist and I think any of these five directors could pull it off.

You can check out the rumored character list for The Flash solo film here

Ezra Miller’s first appeared in Batman v Superman and will star in Justice League. The Flash solo film is currently with out a director and will star Ezra Miller as The Flash. Plot details are currently unknown. The Flash will speed it’s way into theaters on March 16th, 2018.
