Chilling Trailer For New Documentary On ‘IT’ Miniseries Released

Stephen King IT Pennywise

Back in the 90’s, before Bill Skarsgard wore the clown costume, a TV miniseries based on Stephen King’s IT terrified a whole other generation of children.  Tim Curry, who horror fans may know from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, played Pennywise back then and he offered a performance every bit as eerie as the one we saw last year. A new documentary, titled Pennywise: The Story of IT, is chronicling the production of that miniseries and the first trailer just dropped.

Last year, IT returned in Andy Muschietti’s reboot. The film was a huge success that not only broke box office records but helped to legitimize the horror genre in cinema. The 2017 version of the story was absolutely terrifying and may have already caused a phobia of clowns in many children. The trailer for Pennywise boasts an equally creepy tone and promises some exclusive footage:

The trailer doesn’t show too much footage, but it does an excellent job of establishing a mood. Promising “over 50 interviews with cast and crew,” the documentary is sure to make it to the top of every horror fan’s must-see list. The director, Christopher Griffiths, is no stranger to this kind of film. He has also created documentaries on the making of Fright Night, another horror classic, as well as Robocop.

Transformers Spider-Man It Movie PennywiseNot all trailers are created equal. Some give away too many plot points while some don’t reveal enough. Some only earn a couple thousand views in their lifetime, while others earn up to 197 million views in just 24 hours. At this point, trailers have become an art form in themselves as they sell the movie to audiences who have thousands of different entertainment projects competing for their attention. To win the public’s attention, studios often spend big money on marketing campaigns designed to draw as many eyes onto a franchise as possible.

Heroic Hollywood has gathered the ten trailers that generated the most views in their 24 hours and ranked them from worst to best. Just because a trailer is on the top ten doesn’t mean that it’s good (the same applies for the movies mentioned in this list), it just means it succeeded in capturing the attention of the world for a moment. In the dog-eat-dog world that is the entertainment industry, if you aren’t able to generate buzz around your product months before it’s even released, then you’re doing something wrong.

  • Looking forward to this. It’s a Shame Warner Bros. consistently refuses to produce special features for catalog titles like It, but at least fans can pick up the slack.
