The upcoming Tomb Raider reboot has found its main villain. Walton Goggins has been cast alongside Alicia Vikander.
Goggins is known for a variety of roles ranging from feature films like The Hateful 8 and Django Unchained to unique character arcs on popular TV shows like Justified and Sons of Anarchy. Goggins will be playing the main antagonist in this reboot. No details have been released about his character specifically.
The Roar Uthaug Tomb Raider officially has a release date, March 16, 2018. Vikander joined the project back in April as the film’s lead. Viaknder is known for her Oscar-winning performance in The Danish Girl, a breakout role in Ex Machina and was featured in Jason Bourne.
Vikander has been opening up about the direction of the film and what is inspiring the creative team behind the lens.
“They told me they were doing the film based on the reboot of the game from 2013. That is more of an origin story. You get into an emotional aspect of getting to know Lara hopefully in an in-depth way. So I hope that doing a film of the rebooted game will bring something new and fresh that’ll stand on its own two legs. I with the rest of the world, was excited to see a female protagonist in a video game. I was a bit scared playing it when I was 12, 13. I had to go take little breaks.”
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider originally featured Angelina Jolie in the iconic role as a British archaeologist. It was released in 2001 and a sequel in 2003, grossing over $432 million worldwide.
