Variety reports Veep actor Reid Scott is in talks to join Sony’s upcoming Venom movie starring Tom Hardy.
Character details for Scott remain under wraps for now. Sony’s Venom is a standalone Spider-Man spinoff, separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Hardy in the starring role of the reporter-turned-Spider-Man nemesis, Eddie Brock. The film has been confirmed to be an origin story of sorts for Venom.
In addition to Hardy, Scott would join Michelle Williams who is set to play the female lead, a district attorney and potential love interest to Hardy’s Brock. Jenny Slate (Zootopia) is also set to play a scientist with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Riz Ahmed on board in an undisclosed role.
Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer will helm the project from a script by Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji), Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower) and Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey). Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing.
Venom is currently slated to hit theaters on October 5, 2018. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Venom as we learn it.
