‘Venom’ Director Says Spider-Man Face Off Could Happen

Venom Spider-Man Tom Hardy Tom HollandDuring the official presentation for Venom at Hall H in San Diego Comic-Con, the film’s director Ruben Fleischer touched upon the idea of seeing Tom Holland as Spider-Man face off against Tom Hardy as Venom in the future.

Fleischer expresses some excitement over the idea and also mentions that he expects Holland can be worked into future films starring Venom:

This once again plays into that game of speculation as to whether or not Venom will be considered part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon despite no concrete confirmation via Marvel Studios and/or Sony Pictures.

Plot details on the film are currently under wraps, though director Ruben Fleischer revealed that the film will be based on the Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes comic book runs. Whether or not Spider-Man – who played a significant role in both stories – will make an appearance remains unclear.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate, Scott Haze and Woody Harrelson.

Venom will be released in theaters on October 5, 2018.
