The Walking Dead started this season of with a bang as Negan brought terror to our group of survivors. As the dust settles, the show is now starting to branch off in new directions with fresh conflicts, deaths, and potential relationships.
Although The Walking Dead does usually resemble the comic version it was derived from, there does tend to be differences from time to time in the live action version. In the comics, Rosita and Eugene ignite a short-lived romance after Abraham is killed, and as of right now it is still a question if that is the path the show will also go down.
ComicBook.com asked actress Christian Serratos if her character Rosita will end up with Eugene, even if only briefly. Although their relationship in the comics did not last very long, it was still significant to each character’s growth and development. According to Serratos, she is unfortunately still in the dark about her character’s romantic future.
“We talk about all the [comic] storylines on set like little kids getting fascinated to see where the show is going to go and what’s going to happen. We’re not lying when we say we really get no information. We have no idea what’s going to happen on the show. We have no idea what’s going to happen episode to episode. We wait patiently with everyone else.”
Serratos then continued on about the probability of adapting the potential love story.
“I think that would be really interesting. I also think it would be interesting if that didn’t happen. Scott Gimple has a really amazing way of keeping very true to the comic while also keeping it very interesting, meaning he doesn’t necessarily put everything that happens in the comic book in the show. There’s definitely a spin on the show, and I think that’s what’s really interesting and what keeps people fascinated is that they really don’t know what’s coming next, even when they think they do.”
In the comic version of the relationship, Eugene is the best friend of her now deceased ex-boyfriend, and he also had a large problem with his physical appearance. Serratos wrapped the Q&A by commenting on if the show would use either of these elements.
“I don’t think that’s something that would be included in the show. I think if there was a romance between Eugene and Rosita, it would be very natural because they have such an unspoken bond on the show already. I definitely wouldn’t think that would be weird for them to get together at all. I think it would be a very special thing.”
