The Walking Dead Recap: S6E14 Twice As Far

The Walking Dead

This season of The Walking Dead has shown what the people of Alexandria and new threats that they may be up against. With only a few episodes left until the finale and the reveal of Negan, our favorite characters are coming together for what is likely to be the biggest and worst villain Dead fans have experienced.

This episode opens with Morgan (Lennie James) working on his jail cell, which is almost near completion, Carol (Melissa McBride) and Tobin continue their relationship, Daryl (Norman Reedus) being reunited with his beloved motorcycle and while the post-apocalyptic world continues, Spencer (Austin Nichols) wants to ask Rosita (Christian Serratos) out on a date.

Dr. Denise Cloyd (Merritt Wever) explains to Daryl and Rosita remembers that she passed an apothecary when she was driving right after the zombie outbreak took place. The three head out in order to acquire more medicine for the group and Cloyd wants to prove that she can be an important part of the team and defend herself.

While searching the apothecary, Cloyd finds a walker chained up and an infant’s shoe. Seeing this image shocks her back into reality that this world is truly dangerous and unforgiving. While walking back, Cloyd sees a cooler inside a car that could contain medical items, she ignores the advice of Daryl and Rosita and takes on the walker single handedly, proving that she is in fact making steps towards being self sufficient.

Eugene (Josh McDermitt) is out with Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and expresses that he has gone through a change, he now understands the importance of needing to fight for survival and he has aligned his goals to reflect that. Eugene has come up with a plan to help defend Alexandria. He has a way to manufacturer bullets, which would allow for unlimited ammo. While surveying the location to produce the ammo, Eugene comes upon a walker and wanted to prove that he would kill the zombie, instead Abraham has to step in.

This scene is an incredible moment between Abraham and Eugene. Eugene explains that Abraham is no longer of use to him, plain and simple.

While expressing her how she has trained for this mission and how she wants to be a part of the group. She says, “If you want to live, you have to take chances.” She truly comes into her own and is proving why Daryl and Rosita need the group but midway through her empowering moment, she is shot directly in the eye with an arrow and killed instantly. The arrow came from Daryl’s crossbow which was stolen earlier this season by individuals he set free.

Eugene literally bites his captor’s “private parts” and a firefight breaks out, with Abraham returning to help save them. During the fight, Eugene takes a bullet to his side. Eugene survives mostly in part from the medicine that Cloyd was able to find.

Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) hears the news of what happened during the run and starts to rethink her decision about Abraham and their relationship. While this relationship comes together, Carol breaks up with Tobin and says that because she loves everyone here, she knows that she would kill for them but she can’t right now. In one of the most heartbreaking moments of the season, Carol leaves Alexandria and asks that no one comes looking for her.

While this was an emotional episode with moving scenes, possibly the most cheer-worthy moment was Daryl being reunited with his crossbow.

It should be noted that Carol’s new-found desire to not kill teh living, is reflected in teh I-told-you-so look in Morgan’s face as the episode ends.
