‘The Walking Dead’ Stuntman Dies After On-Set Fall

The Walking Dead Stuntman The Walking Dead stuntman John Bernecker has died after suffering a serious head injury on set of the production in Georgia.

Production on the upcoming eighth season of the hit AMC series shut down after Bernecker fell 30 feet off of a balcony down to a concrete floor at Raleigh Studio. The stunt performer was immediately rushed to Atlanta Medical Center.

According to Coweta County Coroner Richard Hawk, Bernecker was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday due to the blunt force trauma of his fall. He was 33.

Bernecker performed stunt work on many projects, including recent and upcoming blockbusters such as Marvel’s Black PantherRampageThe Fate of the Furious, and Logan, as well as Jordan Peele’s mystery thriller Get Out. Other credits include Olympus Has Fallen, The Hunger GamesThe Last Witch Hunter, Goosebumps, and True Detective.

A SAG-AFTRA spokesperson for AMC released a statement Thursday, revealing the guild is investigating the accident:

“We are saddened to report that John Bernecker, a talented stuntman for The Walking Dead and numerous other television shows and films, suffered serious injuries from a tragic accident on set. He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital, and we have temporarily shut down production.”

Production remains shut down on the next season of The Walking Dead.
