‘War For The Planet Of The Apes’: Matt Reeves On Amiah Miller’s Role

Apes

The most recent trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes gave us our best look yet at the involvement of a mysterious young human girl named Nova, played by Amiah Miller.

The film’s director Matt Reeves recently spoke to USA Today, who also just released a new image of the orangutan Maurice and Nova, which you can check out above. Reeves commented on Caesar’s relationship with the girl:

“The war has been so brutal and has brought him to places where he has these feelings about humans that he’s never had, and yet there’s this other part of us that knows that, for the lack of a better word, because it’s really about empathy, there is a humanity to Caesar that is just inescapable. And so the girl represents a part of himself that he has to push away if he’s going to be fierce.”

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

Directed by Matt Reeves, the film stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Judy Greer, Karin Konoval, Amiah Miller, Terry Notary, Sara Canning, Max Lloyd-Jones, Aleks Paunovic, Gabriel Chavarria and Chad Rook.

War for the Planet of the Apes hits theaters July 14, 2017.

War For The Planets Of The Apes

The first full trailer and poster have arrived for Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes. In addition, new details and images are being released. War for the Planets of the Apes picks up two years after 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

At the end of Dawn, the apes retreat into Muir Woods near San Francisco and are trying fight back against an army heading towards them. Producer Dylan Clark explained that there have been deaths on both sides of this war already.

“This quest of revenge to right things — the victor gets the planet.”

Andy Serkis will once again be bringing Caesar to life through motion capture and Serkis explained that this is a dark period in Caesar’s life.

“He doesn’t know anymore where his loyalties lie. He’s in a very deeply conflicted period of his life.”

Serkis added that Woody Harrelson’s character and Caesar will face off against one another.

“There’s also bizarrely a kind of respect and understanding from both sides. It’s understanding the condition of the other person, what they’re having to suffer through and what they’re trying to protect.”

For Serkis working on this franchise is truly an act of love, even when it takes a physical toll on his body. Serkis was wearing his mo-cap suit while working in the snowy conditions. He had to run up and down hills in order to keep his body functioning, despite wearing a wetsuit underneath his traditional mo-cap suit, adding that the night shoots especially were intense.

“They’re about something important: the metaphor, the allegory, the story, the characters. It is a very rare and extraordinary situation you don’t get that often.”
