Spoilers ahead for the first season of Legion.
The first season of Noah Hawley’s exceptional show Legion has ended and has received great reviews from fans and critics alike. One of the most popular and odd characters on the show was The Devil With Yellow Eyes, a morbidly obese being who haunts David Haller.
In a new video, you can see the thought process that went into creating the character as well as its visuals. In addition, the video also shows glimpses of the make-up process. You can check it out below. Be warned that the video has potential spoilers for the first season of Legion.
For a brief recap of The Devil With Yellow Eye’s existence, David Haller realizes that the mutant The Shadow King had possessed him when he was just a baby. David later comes to the conclusion that his biological father, Charles Xavier, is a mutant. After fighting The Shadow King, Xavier gave David away to the Haller family, but The Shadow King still managed to possess the baby.
Knowing that there was to be a parasite in David’s mind for all that time, Noah Hawley wanted The Devil With Yellow Eyes to look bloated, akin to a well-fed tick.
When asked about his approach to the character design by CBR , Hawley had this to say.
“It was a conversation that I had with our production designer, Michael Wiley, and he told me that he was obsessed with this reality show, My 600-lb Life, which I hadn’t seen ,but I did respond to the idea that whatever was inside David had been feeding on him all this time, and as a result it was something engorged or tick-like about it, that it was feeding and it was reaching this very corpulent state.”
Legion stars Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Jeremie Harris, and Bill Irwin.
Legion returns for a second season in 2018.
